ah, i see. again, my point is only about the assumption that AGW is real in the first place. i'm not suggesting that you want to cut the throat of industrial capitalism, just that the people selling us AGW do.

sure, i know. i tried to pack too much into a tweet and came off wrong. what i should have said was "i wouldn't take as a given that AGW is even a thing that exists" or something like that. i didn't mean to suggest perfidy on the part of anyone here, just some people 30 yrs ago.

yr welcome. that's a thing that i dislike as well. a worse thing imo, a friend of mine posits two opposing poles and insists reality is dead center, totally drives me crazy.

he also likes "extreme left wing craziness x is okay because of extreme right wing craziness y", so that a thing doesn't have to be evaluated on its own merits

ooh, let me steelman that: extreme right wing craziness is often justified at the instrumental level as being aimed at moving the overton window - like a non-serious low starting offer to initiate bartering. Left wing craziness should maybe be viewed through the same lens.

wouldn't extreme right-wing craziness be aimed at *preventing* the overton window from moving?
