i feel like you're definitely onto something about 16th century Europe but what i've been told about, say, 7th century BCE Judea pretty well contradicts it not that constraining the past to 16th century Europe would be an unusual crime
contradicts in that it very much sounds like (radically divergent, highly segregated) subjectivities for men and women were a core social reality (and that this maybe degraded in the direction of what you describe in the course of the babylonian captivity)
