Scalzi did a lazy pastiche of _The Forever War,_ replete with typos and plotholes, and is regarded as some sort of scifi saint. He's converted his second-rate scribbling into third-rate Maoism of first-rank irritation.https://twitter.com/kxu65/status/1078671420962586627 …

“hippie heinlein writes forever war” isn’t the worst approach to success, but your point definitely stands

i will give him credit for his short story, “the god engines” very tightly packed story set in a (i believe, at least) unique little universe

god engines was completely politically compromised, practically high-end 40K fluff, so that's probably why it was so delightful old man's war was good as hell because it had an enormous sense of fun, author of course did not get this so rest of series is missing it completely

assigning scalzi a leadership role in the prog takeover of sff is probably too much though, he did lots of support work but he's riefenstahl not goebbels, mostly it's just nice new york liberals at the publisher level trying to do the right thing

it was funny the other day though when somebody tweeted their favorite Non-Ableist Insult and in DMs i was like "this feels like an archaeological find from the distant past of 2015" and my interlocutor was like "whoa yeah slow down there scalzi's blog reader"
