Pliny described him as blond ('subflavum' - gold coloured - at the other extreme it can also mean red ) and with grey eyes. Think of northern Italians - blond, fairskinned, blue-eyed. Same as Seutonius' description of Nero and Lucius Verus: blond and blue-eyed.

The brow, ears and eyes look completely different. His ears are twice the size. Are they presuming that the sculptor would have fixed Dumbo ears and sad-eye?
