progressives lowkey & not so lowkey hate old school socialists like Trotskyists because those are committed to the liberation of the working class, not to eradication of masculinity and/or whiteness, which for every practical purpose in contemporary politics makes them right-wing

Not loving the flat out substitution of progressive for liberal in this tweet.

i mean... they're fairly distinct beasts, and the reasons libs hate (all) commies are pretty different from the reasons progs hate (unwoke) commies

Progs are at least a tiny bit on the side of the liberation of the working class though, at least as far as some practical measures like healthcare, education, and unions go.

sure, as long as you demonstrate that you're on side about the important things

I just don't quite see how the people regular bashed as 'Bernie Bros' are also the prime movers in a supposed assault on masculinity.

why are berniebros hated if not, explicitly, for putting class before race and sex? definitely not mapping prog to berniebro here

That's what I'm taking issue with though. How are you defining progressive - which to my mind is a lot more economic and a lot less identity - vs. liberal, which nowdays is almost completely identity and nothing economic?

oh, are you using 1930s "progressive" or whatnot? the word has been completely taken over by identity for a decade, easy, and i can't see any point in trying to fight the popular usage. does actually sound like we're using the terms exactly oppositely, which would explain a lot

Yes we are at extremely cross purposes here. It's stupid that words don't always mean what we want them to mean. However, ime there is a growing movement to retake the meaning of 'progressive' and it should be encouraged.

i can't muster much giveafuck about what happens to the word one way or another but anything that makes us all mutually incomprehensible is all to the good i'm sure
