if you let harmless math nerds hang around having moral theories long enough eventually somebody tries to implement one of them

honestly, I strongly doubt that any serious mischief ~started~ with heady math nerd theories, and I doubt that there ever was a serious utilitarian villain (they seem a bit too easy to imagine and a bit hard to come by)

well, things starting is fake anyway any villain who talked about the greater good was some extent of utilitarian villain though

That extends the definition of "utilitarian" wide enough to cover not only all of consequentialism but also a solid chunk of deontology, and also most of the creeping metastatic cancer that is "care" ethics

I think reason why most greater-goo types aren't utilitarians and typically resent utilitarians is that most of utilitarianism eventually culminates in "now do the math bitch, and show your work" and they usually turn in napkin with something like "joo bad" scrawled with shit

also just counting the number of shoes doesn't account for the comfiness of each pair

without even getting into the utility monsters that a casual look around demonstrates that we've been massively incentivizing people to be

utility monsters are entirely theoretical construct that an unaugmented human can not be - and it is amusing that utilitarians get hung up on it so. A bit like a particularly comical strain of utilitarian-derived thinkers gets freaked out by "basilisks" from the future

i envy the two of you your lives free of people willing, able, and happy to manufacture misery for themselves because if they're miserable that means other people are obligated to do what they want

well there are ppl like that, but then dealing with them clashes with my utility, and i generally prefer my ideas to be based closely to personal satisfaction
