What would you say is the mechanism by which cathexis leads to joy?

Speaking from a TA perspective (rather than Freudian), the conditions for the emotion of "joy" seem contained within the ego-syntonic, cathected "natural Child". Thus, one might attempt to achieve joy by directing active cathexis into the Child (perhaps by way of catharsis!).
