I would say that social media and online dating are something more forcibly imposed on the people rather than an act of volition. People are involved with the internet as an inevitability of modern life. But how many actually *contemplate* the Internet as an object?

How many people have inner-dialogue is another good question.

The internet is killing inner-dialogue. It provides immediate opportunities to turn every thought into a post. The distinction between inner and outer collapses.

Depends on whether you have an outlet and how filtered you are. You'd be surprised how much even outer-dissidents suppress.

I think the second-gen local social media (e.g. Snapchat) are a better (more immediate, less filtered) outlet for most than the quasi-public sphere we're currently interacting with/through.

Snapchat: immediate broadcast to any subset of friends. The result is audience creation alongside content creation. If we accept that our own ideas are in fact built from our environment (relations' ideas), then, with enough snapchat friends, any thought will find an audience.

This is exactly why I hate snapchat. It feels too parochial, too narrow

Snapchat's narrowness is a feature. It provides a sense of psychological security. Most do not want to leap beyond their bubble.
