"You can't go faster than light" is just another way to say "you can't have an effect before its cause" or "you can't go back in time". In modern physics, all three of those statements are equivalent.

I mean, you're right on a fundamental level. It's just that the equations are way more complicated than that and require linear algebra (or, I suppose, quaternion equivalents).
