fyi when i was a kid "you never grow new brain cells" was The Scientific Verdict and i was *absolutely certain* it was wrong, which is why now when i have ontological intuitions that have the same synaesthetic mind-feel as that one i'm absolutely insufferable about them

i'm also kind of out on a limb here on the basis of that kind of feeling, in this case not exactly unorthodox, i saw study results that were like "yes, that" and went from there, but far enough outside the scientific Overton window people look at me funnyhttps://twitter.com/chaosprime/status/1069987978443927552 …

Chaos @chaosprimeReplying to @kreueltyour brain forms neural architectures for specific tasks by taking a bunch of neurons that are hanging around, throwing the task at them, taking the ones that form a successful adaptation and letting the rest die, but sure, learning is magic and you don't have any limits2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

Chaos added,
Chaos @chaosprimeReplying to @chaosprime"reforming" is a thing to some extent but it isn't like just switching connections on a patch panel, it's neurogenesis followed by destructive adaptation. we note here that neurogenesis requires low stress and people tend to take breaks before trying major new things1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes
