It's really fun working with someone as talented as @chaosprime ; he's got a lot of code skill in areas that I don't have and I'm learning a lot from his thoughtful, elegant structural touch.

I haven't thought about MUDs for about 10 years. Only since 2013 have I been playing OD&D, but now I'm suddenly filled with an irresistible urge to code my own. How difficult would it be to write my own MUD without any network coding knowledge (but other coding)?

I'm thinking: custom parser built from ground up, a overworld map mechanic but detailed text dungeon/city mechanic, and combat that uses a lock-in engagement system; slowed down to make meaningful choices instead of mindless grind.

i'd ditch text command parsing tbh, that part will occupy you for ages and provide essentially negative bang for buck, other stuff is A+
