because i viewed it as an ineffective behavior that exists to be a ritual by which participants reassure themselves that they are good people who deserve to occupy their position relatively high on the pile of corpses, this being a tribe i no longer identify with

Thanks. I'd heard plastic recycling is ineffective before, but I thought metals and glass were worthwhile. If that's the case, I think I'd recycle for environmental reasons, despite how people use it to... feel good...

I don't know if that guy is a reliable source, so I did some research. Recycling glass and plastics isn't worth it, but it might be some day. Metals, cardboard and paper are worth it, though.
