They … seem to not be recognizing regional dialects as a thing that exists in English, past "the South" (which is, in and of itself, home to twenty or so overlapping regional dialects?)

Oh, no, they're clearly not isolated! They seem to think that the existence of a standard broadcast register is somehow evidence that there aren't REALLY English dialects, somehow?
