I can't figure out why they insist that the phrase isn't part of our dialect? What would make it not be?

They … seem to not be recognizing regional dialects as a thing that exists in English, past "the South" (which is, in and of itself, home to twenty or so overlapping regional dialects?)

🤔🤔🤔 Of all the potential rationales I imagined, "denying the existence of multiple dialects of English in the US" was NOWHERE on the list. You gotta be really dang isolated to genuinely believe that.

Oh, no, they're clearly not isolated! They seem to think that the existence of a standard broadcast register is somehow evidence that there aren't REALLY English dialects, somehow?

if words don't mean exactly the same things and imply exactly the same context and history in every time and every place then, y'know, that's inconvenient for word choice based witchfinding
