turns out after 10 months of continuous operation, my one surviving Bitcoin miner picked this moment to finish melting down the outlet it was connected to and/or one tine of the GFCI adapter i had ever so responsibly but completely ineffectually put into the equation

there was a bit of contretemps with the smoke alarms since until i worked out the exact situation, which was that every time i turned the breaker back on the outlet ignited again just a tiny bit. hardly even enough of an electrical fire to worry your head about, really

throughout this
@jenphalian acted with grace and aplomb, earning her flowers and cherry vanilla ice cream when i popped out to the neighborhood hardware store to buy a wire crimper, wire caps, and a simply gorgeous 20 amp GFCI outletShow this thread -
since Jen also made me watch a bunch of Parks & Rec this weekend, i Ron Swansoned the shit out of the wee spot of electrical work required and now there is a nice outlet quite unfairly maligned by all the soot on the wall around it and i barely have any smoke inhalation symptomspic.twitter.com/C2umiUuQOl

the Bitcoin miner was quite unharmed by any of this and is now merrily chugging away again, turning the last dregs of Mother Earth's precious resources into fake internet money. happy ending!

oh, i forgot the part where while i was unscrewing the burnt outlet, i was suddenly struck by the awareness that Spongebob Squarepants is a nuclear mutant, "Bikini Bottom" clearly being the sea floor under Bikini Atoll. sorry if this is common knowledge or whatever

did I tell you about that one time plugging certain sensitive equipment into a filter and then into a PSU caused a fire that required punching the EPO?

mine was much less exciting... slagging the breaker itself (couldn't get it to re-engage) and having to replace it. all the excitement came from the failure happening at 11:00pm on a Sunday, and realizing that (somehow) my fridge was on that circuit as well.
-
it was deeply weird what was attached to that circuit here too
