any apparent root causes other than too high ratio of people in a position to need aid vs. people in a position to provide aid?
-
that and relationships fall apart people grow distant networks need to have stuff happen to matter and conflict is inevitable. basically i think you need a critical mass before it can be self sustaining as a group because otherwise people will drift apart

Not having a clear idea of what they actually want to do and disintegrating accordingly.

To elaborate on this: I see lots of people going like "hey, we need to found a commune!" just because apparently it is a thing to do. I never get any explanation of *why* or what purpose it serves. It's supposed to make everything great somehow (to be determined later.)
-
There's this ephemeral enthusiasm about nothing in particular that dissipates as soon as it meets the difficulty of forming any kind of functioning organization or community; mainly it's a thing onto which people project half-formed hopes and good feelings--but not plans.
-
And the final rock on which it founders is the failure to consider how, if accomplished, this autonomous collective or mutual aid society would actually differ from what people actually live in--or to what extent.
-
This can result in the organization trying to serve a need that either doesn't exist or is already better satisfied by something that already exists--or a need which may even be fundamentally incompatible with their aims.

I dono man, i usually just wing it. When i see someone who needs help, i help them. Whether they like it or not. Can't say the greeks were to happy with me, but the romans adored me. With out my help, Jesus wouldn't have been possible.
