I remembered this tweet and then remembered your stated willingness to offer explanations. Is this about how people generate their beliefs first and come up with justifications later?

not specifically but that feels related, what i meant is how so many things that purport to be describing knowledge are prescribing knowledge. like idk if you noticed but almost everything claiming to be a work of magickal theory is a work of magickal practice
-
There’s only so many layers of abstraction you can slather on before you’re giving calculus lessons that don’t actually help someone do magic IRL. How do you distinguish prescribing knowledge from sharing knowledge?
-
i guess basically by whether somebody strikes me as giving their honest best analysis or playing Platonic philosopher king, spinning and omitting and mealy-mouthing to manipulate you into Good Behavior or joining their cult or whatever
-
*Now* I understand what you meant.

i'm not trying to die on the hill, i'm trying to get the other guy to die on it

I somehow care deeply about the word "epistemology" (Dad often used this word to introduce all sciences, before I went with the word empirical). Bringing it up made me look for its branching. Epístamai (Science), from epí (before) + hístēmi (standing). Before + (under) + standing

According to google, epistogony is a made up word that doesn't exist and I was really trying to search for epistemology, wasn't I? Clearly there's a conspiracy.
