seems likely though that what makes people put up with that is economic interdependency (maybe in the naive cha-ching sense of "economic", maybe in the proper sense that comprehends intangible goods)

which would imply "i want friends not community" would basically mean you only want to engage with people who you *want* to engage with, not people you *need* to engage with so that'd be a situation of hope you have fuck-you money, otherwise good luck
