what if: the world is a problem without solution
-
-
-
it's still an engineering problem with no solution
-
I think this statement probably angers many engineers deeply. Perhaps I am typifying engineers...
-
engineers should be angry

this smells a bit anti-democratic. care to give a concrete example?
-
It is neither anti nor pro-democratic, in my understanding, except to the extent you think democracy is either a problem or a solution, you are making the same mistake. Democracy is consensus worship. Anti-democracy is consensus rejection.
-
If you think either consensus or lack of consensus are solutions, you are not understanding the problem, because they are both irrelevant to it.
-
If consensus is not a solution then what is it? <honest question>
-
a problem
-
Consensus is a strategy for decision-making. One of many, and not perfect. I honestly am just trying to understand how it is irrelevant to problems. Or is this all just quippy internet humor?
-
Let me ask you this: Do you think a well-built bridge needs more yellow and less blue or more blue and less yellow?
-
So I think you are saying that consensus is not a viable strategy when approaching engineering decisions? It seemed to me that you were saying consesus was overall an irrelevant strategy.

Modern democratic consent is already manufactured by highly concentrated machineries of dissemination. Just look at mainstream media ownership. The idea that the consensual problem is not also an engineering one is bunk.
