I figured it out. I want to be a tech writer that focuses on the geopolitical role of a specific "space" in tech -- whether it is a literal space (i.e. a city) or a paradigmitic space (i.e. crypto).

News writing used to be a more reasonable job, but it's been eaten by software, and is a pretty brutal gig these days. My hunch that's part of why news is really on top of the "everything is terrible" message, it's lived experience and desperation.

The news biz has contracted dramatically, and is still seeking a "new normal". Of course, any other kind of writing has never been a way to make a living.

On the Twitters you may get the impression that there's lots of journalists, but that's just because they are all here polishing their personal brands and backstabbing each other.
