we could say that and it would be pretty obviously true, but i'm going for something slightly edgier, that the person who makes the actual choice to harm you is morally superior to the person who would never intend to but does anyway

I bump on the phrase "morally superior" but I actually do understand what you are saying; the one who takes the action to achieve the desired result has a purity, directness, and even respectability lacking in the one who takes an action without sufficient though to consequences.

Well certainly that. But unless you're just into violence or whatever, I'd think that if you think through your actions to the degree that you only harm where necessary, you'd average out less than someone who blindly charges about being a Good Person and knocking everyone over
