Casual reminder that I don't post content warnings, and if you need them you probably shouldn't be following me. Unless we're DMing regularly, don't demand I tailor my posts to your sensibilities. Just accept you can't handle my content and unfollow me. Don't -yell- at me.

Why would you start drama over someone else's post that was clearly not intended to directly attack your delicate sensibilities

Earlier this week I saw someone else tweet that the words lame, idiot, dumb, and stupid were "ableist slurs" so I just don't fucking know what's wrong with some people

I understand the ideas of "not having to call people by a name or label" but there's some words I don't understand having a fight over. Calling something "ableist" seems to be saying the original word has been coopted into colloquial speech as a pejorative, but.. Stupid???

I mean, how else are we supposed to refer to Trump voters then?

I have a few answers but I assume that's rhetorical. What I'm coming to think, though, is some of what people call ableist was perpetuated due to the character limit. Stupid is a shorter word than Unintelligent.

Purism exists in all things, and that's how zealots are born. You can't protect everyone's sensibilities at all times, but as long as you're making a conscious effort to not be offensive, that should count for something, always.

that standard is how you wind up at "we shouldn't use words like 'stupid' and 'unintelligent' because we can anticipate a scenario where someone is offended at their implication that one state of ability is better than another, which is ableism"

basically trying to be a good person in cop society is a trap that will be used to humiliate you endlessly as long as you stay in the trap and attempt to murder you if you try to get out of the trap
