hot take: first laser guns and explosive hegemony, then energy shields that sorround you and reflect all that, so people go back to sci-fi blades, but one time some smart bastard gets some muskeet,maims/kills some important character because the anti-beam shields *don't*stop that
-
tbh the big problem to me is that we already have drones, so most real sci-fi war will probably be robots with BFG fighting in space with no tripulation, and that removes a lot of the relatable drama
-
also, you can just ignore the question and have dudes with big axes around in a sci-fi setting mattering. Worked for legend of galactic heroes
-
you want big axes? how about 3 big axes on the same haftpic.twitter.com/4gV0NxpBf1

I can already feel either stabbing him in the face or getting triple decapitated
-

"sorcerors found a way to heat metal so this is why armies on Dragaera don't wear a lot of heavy armor"

medieval weapons persist in SR because they're unhackable and because tech weapons are hard to turn into weapon foci
-
yes but have you considered chainsaw halberds?

the gimp suits are a purely aesthetic choice
-
the armature that projects a personal skin-tight force field needs shiny black material to project but not too much of it, because hysteresis, so a network of straps or a bodysuit are optimal

it's just the surveillance drones. the whole war is livestreamed to http://twitch.tv and people only donate money if it looks cool.
