I'd rather have a hundred people chipping away at whatever source of non-recyclable trash they can find than a thousand people criticizing them for not saving the world single handedlyhttps://twitter.com/StevenBrust/status/1001252342153465856 …
i will put in here that i think there is actually an extremely large difference between shouting into the void about whatever annoys you on your twitter feed and shouting at people who are annoying you

that's completely fair, but then one of the things abt twitter that regularly bugs me is that line isn't exactly clear. I wish ppl would be more explicit abt which side of it a comment of theirs is meant to be on & keep it there but that doesn't seem to be the general ethos
-
oh, my twitter ethics place the dividing line firmly on "does this show up in their mentions" like, if you see me being really annoyed with somebody i'm never @'ing them, because i figure if they haven't consented to read my feed i have no reason to burden them with my annoyance
-
that and it's better to militate against behaviors and principles than people
-
agree, but then a thing with behaviors and principles is then it's on you to show that it happens enough to be significant & yr point can be evaded by whipping out disingenuous skepticism abt that, so taking on a representative instance instead can be useful for sidestepping that
