yeah, you're right, for something to be "us" it has to be warm-blooded since so much of our cognitive development is tied to moving to places that want to kill us first and working out how to survive there second

warm-blooded metabolic hunger is a big part of the puzzle here. so is the combination of omnivorous diet with predatory habits/preference for meat when available.
