He is absolutely right. And those that worry about “ever closer union” should revisit what David Cameron negotiated pre-referendum: that the U.K. could once again opt out (as also the case with the euro). Worth another look.

Unfortunately the opt-outs will be worth nothing in a few years. Closer unity means exactly that. All will use the euro, all will pay taxation to Brussels, all will drive on the right, all will have health insurance ...
