No matter how many false victory laps the mayor attempts to take, his record shows a different reality. New Yorkers know the real state of the city, and we know what we need for our communities to thrive.

The reality is that in both his FY23 budget and proposed FY24 budget, the Mayor has continued to gut essential services like housing, mental health, early childhood education, and libraries while preserving a bloated police budget that does nothing to make New Yorkers safer.

Communities, who have for decades been targeted, harassed, and abused by NYPD, need accountability -- an end to abusive practices, stronger police oversight, and real accountability for officers who brutalize and kill New Yorkers.

Instead, doubled down on his commitment to sustain abusive policing tactics like the hyperaggressive enforcement of low-level offenses, expand police surveillance and continue to support notoriously violent units, like his rebranded anti-crime unit.

Mayor Adams's budget cuts represent a refusal to admit that criminalizing poverty, mental health challenges, and housing instability does not keep our city safe.
The safest communities are not the ones with the most police; they're the ones with the most resources.

We need the Speaker and City Council to ensure that the FY24 Budget restores and protects critical services and programs that our communities rely on and that are essential for the full recovery of our city. And that's on #NYCNeedsABetterBudget.

Unacceptable that is postponing this hearing again! SRG is a hyper militarized unit that abuses and brutalizes NYers. It must be disbanded and NYC must invest in vital services and resources that NYers actually need, like quality long-term mental healthcare.

NEWS: My god. $820 million. NYC taxpayers will pay *$820 million* in just overtime for NYPD this year. Could instead house all 14,000 homeless families in NYC. Then years of rent for 7,000 families out of work & at risk of eviction. With millions left over.

Again, Mayor Adams makes an exception for NYPD while making major cuts to other agencies. This is unacceptable! Not only is NYPD not expected to meet its cost-cutting target, but it's also projected to double what's in the budget for overtime pay.
