Quick question : Is female circumcision a traditional Malay practice or a recent import from the Middle East? A newspaper article kept calling it traditional but I've never heard it practiced in Malaysia until recently.

It is a tradition which has existed among Malays for some time but I'm not sure whether it was brought with Islam or not. One clarification though, Malay female circumcision is different from the Middle Eastern practice of FGM https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156938213704638&id=685734637 …

Any reason why it's not talked about? I hear about sunat lelaki but never sunat perempuan

I assume it's simply because our society still discourages speaking publicly about women in this way. Like the people who say it's "tak manis" for women to talk about their period
