Op-Ed and I wrote about how immigration detention is making healthy people, like Abdi, sick. He’s suffered dangerous delays in diagnosis and care while detained. Here’s his story.

When your country has the technology to remotely track and kill individuals by drones with a push of a button half a world away but can’t securely ensure and count the votes of its own citizens, you have to question what we are prioritizing as a democracy with our resources

Hi, I’m Black Puerto Rican, queer AND *from Miami* and would like to report: Miami (for me) is exactly like last night’s show—non-Black Latinas profiting off the culture + aesthetic of Black Latinxs with no actual solidarity with Black Latinxs and calling it diversidad.

This study needs to be discussed regularly. Current-day provider bias perpetuates health inequities. In 2016 (!), med students & residents believed Black people had thicker skin & aged more slowly than whites influencing pain treatment recommendations.

Time for reform of the exploitation of medical residents. Federal work regulations don’t apply because they’re “students” and yet work the equivalent of 2 full time jobs. How many hospital systems are being kept afloat financially by resident labor? Who is this system benefiting?

This new paper is a bombshell. It finds that neoliberal structural adjustment policies imposed by the IMF on global South countries have worsened health system access and *increased neonatal mortality*. Structural adjustment is a crime against humanity.

This my best friend of 20 years. He’s Nigerian and I’m Iranian. If Trump’s were in place 25 years ago, he wouldn’t be allowed to come to the US and My dad, a victim of torture, couldn’t escape Iran to come to the US We are your neighbors.

1/2 I just ran into Mike Pence at the Drake Diner in Des Moines. I confronted him about his damaging health care cuts because for me it's not about politics, it's about saving lives.

She studies the patterns in years leading up to genocides. It’s scary to read these warning signs, many of them are taking place. We’re already disappearing people. Removing trans people and immigrants from the military. Placing [BIPOC]people in camps, killing them with neglect.

Whether it's acts of military aggression, bellicose leaders, assassinating journalists, putting foreign nationals in filthy over crowded camps that are black holes; the country on the verge of genocide is looking to see if they can provoke a reaction. It almost never comes 14/n

ICE’s budget continues to grow & yet, people are still dying in detention & going on hunger strikes to protest their incarceration. The problem isn’t the need for better conditions or more $, the problem is ICE & the detention system it operates

I've been thinking about the nine ppl found dead in Mississippi's Parchman prison for days now, and I don't know what it's going to take for this country to actually understand that prison is one of the worst things our society does to ppl. There is no justice to be found there.

Another life was tragically lost to immigration detention. Ben James Owen, 39, died on Saturday while in ICE custody at the Baker County Detention Center in Macclenny, FL. Owen’s passing marks the fifth death in ICE custody of FY2020.

No one should have to watch a loved one die because they don't have health insurance. I don't understand what is so radical about that.
