    When I was student, I lived in cheap ADU in Berkeley hills close to campus - without a car. Walking is definitely doable for part of population. E-bikes make even easier.

    I hope the emphasis is on improving transbay bus service. Carpools and electric cars shouldn't be allowed to impede efficient bus service.

    What will reduce emissions is giving people attractive alternatives to driving. That means better sidewalks, bike lanes, bus service, and train service. And it means land use decisions that support those other modes of transportation.

    I wish SFO would give a fraction of the attention it gives to serving parking garages and the car rental center to improving transit connections to Caltrain. (The current BART connection to Millbrae is too dysfunctional and expensive to count.)

    3/To be clear, this transition to a society where people drive less can’t just be about *demanding* that people drive less. We have to make it *possible* for people to do so. That means massive investment in transit, accompanied by significant density increases by jobs & transit.

    1/No climate plan is credible w/o a meaningful plan to reduce driving. Electric vehicles aren’t enough. We must invest in transit & reform land use to allow more housing near transit & jobs. Bottom line: We gotta make it easier for people to drive less.
