A step back. In 2008, back when @scienceblogs was popular, a man named @hankcampbell founded a for-profit corporation, ION Publications, LLC. Hank apparently launched a few low-quality "science blogging" websites of his own: http://sciblogs.com , http://sciencecodex.com ...pic.twitter.com/nyAVrY3cab
... and http://scientificblogging.com . Not deceptive at all -- who would confuse http://scientificblogging.com/sciblogs.com with http://scienceblogs.com , I ask you? Eventually, http://scienceblogging.com turned into http://Science20.com .https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/a-blog-around-the-clock/science-blogs-definition-and-a-history/ …
As it happens, the president of @acshorg is @hankcampbell, who, in his role as president is busy paying @hankcampbell's ION Publications $60,000 for promotional activities.pic.twitter.com/ryE9QZP1ya
Last year, @science2_0 went nonprofit, apparently not long before they acquired the @scienceblogs name. (Presumably, whoever gave financial backing for the acquisition got a nice tax deduction.) They revealed their founding document, only after I reported them to the IRS...
... and its founders are @riskmonger, another disinterested person who happens to be gung-ho about @monsanto product safety, and @hankcampbell. So @hankcampbell's nonprofit is paying @hankcampbell's for-profit which owns @hankcampbell's nonprofit which owns @scienceblogs.pic.twitter.com/K51Y0pDdYN
(Just for the record, don't try to pay @science2_0 or ION Publications a visit at their address at 705-2 E. Bidwell St. in Folsom.... it's a UPS Store.)pic.twitter.com/nmM5Cgy4pI
Now, I'm no expert on corporate governance, but this seems kinda fishy to me -- not just the money flow, but the for-profit owning a non-profit with such obvious overlap in governance structure. But heaven forfend that someone suggest @acshorg @science2_0 etc. are in cahoots!pic.twitter.com/wc8AEVMNCo
Attached is a handy-dandy chart for those attempting to follow at home. And disclosure: the @acshorg network, @hankcampbell, and various minions have attacked me and some of my colleagues, incl. on their "Deniers for Hire" website. And I fully admit that I think they're scumbags.pic.twitter.com/d0RdpiD6zO
So, the TL;DR version... this is how a once-admired science blogging site, @scienceblogs, was acquired by a complex and, IMO, shady network of for-profits and non-profits helping @monsanto. No wonder @monsanto said @ACSHorg was such a good value for the dollar! --END--pic.twitter.com/2dDC0471Mv
