I found the most German of five-star reviews 😅("CAN'T COMPLAIN!" – probably really a genuine compliment.)

  2. 15 years ago today I sent my first mail to the PyPy-dev mailing list: Became a core dev shortly after. How far we've come! At the time, we couldn't even bootstrap to C yet.

Very special thanks to of for helping straighten out the remaining test issues using the backport on PyPy, and finding a cracker of a bug in CPython in the process!

mock 4.0.0b1 - a backport of 's unittest.mock - released: this one is Py3.6+ only, but includes all the bugfixes and features from CPython master, including AsyncMock.

In which we just prove again that one of PyPy's functions is being a (very expensive) bug finding tool: /cc (this time: very obscure corner cases of unittest.mock)

2019 was an abysmal book reading year for me, but 2020 is starting very strong! Read five novels in January, including all three books of the fantastic Worldbreaker saga trilogy, so awesome!

but I made it work better by directly making the checking script run the program many times. It turned out to be a weakref problem, with a weak reference going dead at an unexpected moment and the callback being called only later.

The problem was complicated by the fact that the failure was not consistent: Sometimes the program would pass randomly, despite the bug still being present. Despite this, shrinkray made good progress (!)

Had a very good experience with 's shrinkray test case reducer today, to reduce an obscurely failing (PyPy) test: The test imported tons of stuff, and I copied everything into a single file first.

Yaaaay! This is great news (if you followed my thread last year, you’ll know I had a connection through Frankfurt and a day trip) - only sad that I already booked my travel to Vienna in March already and it does not involve this train 😭😭

Happy to announce my next major article on the missing legacy of Marie Neurath, an unsung woman dataviz practitioner from the mid-century. I’ve been working on this article for 6 months so please take a look and share if it is meaningful for you:

Now those numbers are very much [citation needed], the methodology is completely unclear and the benchmarks are very likely about low level languages anyway. Still, I chuckled.

Watched this Hotchips keynote from last summer, given by AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su: I was really amused by the following slide: Compilers are responsible for 8% of the 2x improvement in the 2.5 years.
