Apparently they had done this before and also claimed that they were fighting "fake news" and "spam".

However, there seem to be no way for us to get the list of users an account has blocked on Twitter. (You can only get the list of users **you** have blocked.)

It'd be interesting to find out the list of users has blocked and see if there are any evidences for them to justify their action. "ICAO’s Outrageous Practice of Blocking Twitter Users Who Reference Taiwan"

"When we play games, we may not be aware that we are revealing information about ourselves; we think we are simply acting in a made-up world, inside the magic circle of play. But in reality, we are letting the game spy on us through the magnifying glass of machine learning."

Nicely demonstrated how big companies can throw more money bidding for candidates to improve hiring without actually solving the problem (the noisy interview process), and how smaller companies can profit from this by hiring more smartly.

In case anyone is looking, here is the research paper: Its mentioned in one line in the article and links to another tech crunch article... Also I think it’s important to note that they don’t claim targeted ads aren’t proven to be effective...

The reason Google’s new search design can claim to “boldy” label ads while making them difficult to distinguish has to do with something called pre-attentiveness.

Missed this great article on the Clever Hans effect in NLP Many SOTA results we get with Bert-like models are due to these models "breaking" our datasets –in a bad sense– by exploiting their weaknesses 's piece has nice overview & advice Also follow on this

There are unfair advantages in the game of life, like being born white, male, or wealthy. It’s not right or OK, but for now it’s still the case. What you do with your advantages says a lot about you. If you attribute them to your own cleverness, that says a lot about you too.

I wish people stopped using the area under an ROC curve as a performance metric. ROC curves have their use, but I find them to be most helpful accompanied by operational thresholds and other plots such as a calibration curve.

Also: A huge study last year found that "emotion-detecting" systems don't work. There's no universal set of facial expressions; a scowl can mean lots of things (or nothing); and computer-vision software can't tell the difference

I often meet research scientists interested in open-sourcing their code/research and asking for advice. Here is a thread for you. First: why should you open-source models along with your paper? Because science is a virtuous circle of knowledge sharing not a zero-sum competition
