Question for poets who came up through slam: Do y’all naturally write all your poems as prose pieces & lineate them later (if at all)? I feel like I owe more to the sound & pacing than the page & I’m curious to see if this is common.

Which is to say...once I started performing my poetry it def impacted how I write it and how I think about how it sounds and feels and speaks on the page. And also, bc I grew up writing first for the page that’s still how I write it ... to work first on the page.
-
And also. Bc I’m a performer (and grew up acting and performing and then merged the writing and performing together), I very much let the poem tell me how it sounds and reads so sound matters but first on the page.

And lastly. Once I start reading/performing/learning by heart, BIG edits happen bc of how it sounds and/or lives in my body.
