This is interesting - and transparency is good - but I wonder how they will choose those 1st 300 journals & the 1000 with 6 months. Unless choice is globally random it risks perpetuating current IF biases and current dominance of journals from large Western commercial publishers.

i’m hopeful but very skeptical. IF hasn’t gone away bc it serves a base psychological need to say one paper is “better” than another. the hypothesis that “research transparency” can compete for that feels weak. it seems moralistic, not realistic... i hope I’m wrong!!

Only transparent research can be fully vetted for quality. Therefore transparent research has much higher potential for quality. And transparent research can be built on much more easily, which is what should happen with research, making it higher quality.
