    Why the violent escalation in does not mark an authoritarian endgame, as many suggest, but the start of a power struggle over what comes next. Toxic elite politics offer no clear prospects for seeing a genuine transition or systemic change

    The current government’s decision on April 12th to seek a two-year extension has thrown Somalia’s fragile political process into disarray.

    2/The discourse ‘constructs a world where the responsibility for harm is, for the most part, domestically bounded’. It misses the constitutive relationship between local elites and international networks (that include aid regimes, financial markets and regional interests) (169).

    A quick reflection on how a massive influx of humanitarian assistance will increase capital flight and aid diversion, and reinforce a violent economy of aid contracting in Somalia.
