TL;DR: if you hate local hunters for culling invasive species or overpopulated animals more than you hate on CEOs of the major agribusiness or oil & gas companies, than your environmentalism needs to be recalibrated. Why That Local Hunter Isn’t Your Mortal Enemy, A Thread:

Undergraduate researchers are awesome. They come up with innovative amazing ideas bc they (unlike us) don’t assume failure! Also are often amazed at procedures that are old hat to us because for them, they are finally seeing science work outside a lecture.

I study teaching and learning in higher education. From all the research (and practice) I've done, I think what it comes down to is this: the most important thing for teaching is actually caring about the students and their learning.

I was a C student in physics. And the only reason I didn’t change my major was that, in my head, I was going into an applied program so it was ok because I “wasn’t trying to be a real physicist” The irony of being hired for a physics professor position is not lost on me.

This tweet has disturbing images but an important message. Teach students sharps safety! I am now even more glad I switched to blunt tip needles for my undergrad lab.

Reasons I enjoy teaching: having a student express relief about not feeling judged about being ESL during office hours. It helps that I can relate. I just have to think of my grandmother 🙂

I got asked today if I was being sexist because I referred to all the spiders in my presentation as "she". They were females, but I probably should have reverted to "he", the normal and default sex to be.

My fiancee is on the picket line today. As a university instructor I can unequivocally say that high quality public education is essential for university success. Don't let the take us back to the Harris years!

A thread to explain the simplest possible model of how atmospheric greenhouse gases cause warming. PART 1 First, we will figure out how to calculate the surface temperature of a planet without considering the atmosphere, and show that this works pretty well for many planets.
