Yes, late Sunday. He took a turn for the worse over the holidays and declined very quickly.

One of the many things that impressed me about Larry -- as head of ATG, he supported a wide range of research efforts, including some he didn't believe in -- but was willing to give those people a chance.

Sad news. Larry was one of my favorite PARC colleagues and we worked on the Notetaker together before I followed him to Apple. “Don’t mode me in” — Larry’s t-shirt circa 1975

Kind kind man. Gave me so much time on a busy day for him one Sunny day in Perth many years ago - he loved what he made and it was infectious. I try every day to answer questions for others the way he did mine.

When I interviewed at Microsoft in 2003 we sat next to each other on the last row of the plane. He was obviously already fairly wealthy and loved that he didn't ask for special privileges. We talked for two hours about all sorts of stuff, including hiring Steve Jobs back to AAPL.

In 1990, Larry (& John Doerr, Bill Gates, Stewart Alsop, Charles House) was a member of the West coast team for the second annual Computer Bowl. Larry brought "Hungry Hippos" so players could practice hitting the buzzer BEFORE answering the question.
