How you know Facebook isn't serious about diversity and inclusion: Peter Thiel is still on their board.

Would like to see no women or people of color -- heck, maybe white men too -- accept jobs at Facebook until Thiel is gone.

@cbracy I like that idea, but strategically it scares me a little. FB is already harmful enough, could be more so with all men at helm.

@jilliancyork If they lose enough good talent to other companies, and creates a PR disaster maybe the calculus changes. Or maybe I'm naive.

@cbracy @samfbiddle I've been curious about this: how has there not been more internal pressure to change this?

@cbracy @luis_in_140 well, he's probably the only gay Trump supporter in the country. He's practically his own demographic group.

@cbracy isn't that quite a limiting view of what diversity really means?

      1. Jack Johnson ‏@JackJNYC 16 Oct 2016

@cbracy @jimray That seems grossly unfair.

        @JackJNYC how so?

      3. Jack Johnson ‏@JackJNYC 16 Oct 2016

@jimray To wipe that away based a board member’s politics seems to misunderstand how companies operate.

@JackJNYC I’m aware of FB’s outreach efforts. They also seem empty with someone like Thiel in such a position.

      5. Jack Johnson ‏@JackJNYC 16 Oct 2016

@jimray I think Thiel is an oddball Libertarian with some perverse political views. I don’t think his association empties FB outreach effort

@JackJNYC I know for a fact it makes it harder. What does Thiel being to FB at this point?

      7. Jack Johnson ‏@JackJNYC 16 Oct 2016

@jimray Sure it can’t help. I don’t disagree with that. But that wasn’t the point of the post I called grossly unfair.

@JackJNYC hm. I think that was exactly the point. Keeping Thiel (and Andreessen) around sends a strong signal.

@cbracy Rubbish. He's entitled to his opinions. Differing politics don't disqualify you from holding a board seat.

@cbracy @laura so no one has a right to support who they want in this country unless it is your side? Irony is strong in this one.
