What perks did you enjoy as a kid bc of your parents jobs? My parents ran a computing company and they had a huge computer with a very primitive couple of games I’d play. They also has a coke machine on the honor system and I drank those all the time.

Lots of pastures and fields and woods to run around in. Cows as friends. Side note: I am now a vegetarian.

my dad sold candy - he would return from conventions with duffle bags of treats - he would come home with samples - when there was a candy show in town i could go and bring friends

My dad sold coffee, so not a lot of kid-friendly freebies. Except he’d go to all the food tradeshows, and trade coffee for candy with all the candy booths, then bring it home for us and it was *glorious*.

My dad's employer offered a need-blind, merit-based college scholarship to it's employees' children. (Selection was competitive.) It made a substantial contribution to me graduating from college without student debt. So yeah, I would call that a pretty big perk of my dad's job.

My mom ran the concession stand for an art house movie theatre! Free tickets and popcorn. I was a movie buff by 17 and watched amazing foreign films!

My mom ran fundraisers for the United Way of the Bay Area, so I got to meet all the athletes they honored for their charitable work (ex: Barry Bonds, Jerry Rice, Kristi Yamaguchi).

My dad was a journalist until the mid 90s. As a kid, I had full access to his newspaper library - rare books + archives. Also membership to American Centre/British Council which was a luxury in 80s india. Saw all my Marx bros and other classics there.
