This still makes no sense to me though. #purpleair monitors in sf should be working at 8am on Sunday but EPA website (http://airnow.gov ) has SF in the red.

In this dystopia, we won't even know how bad the wildfire smoke is, because we turned off the power to try to prevent fires and now the AQI sensors can't get on the internet. Hopefully they run on battery reserve and then upload when signal is reestablished? That would at least be something.

PurpleAir is a network of mostly amateur sensors, it's basically crowdsourced. You can go on their web site, buy the kit, and install it at your house. So I doubt many of these people have any sort of back-up like that in place.
