1 of 2 I believe slavery was Britain’s holocaust. We should apologise for it properly and yet at the moment, we have NO memorial to enslaved people in the UK. We should not celebrate slave owners.

2 of 2 And we should not sing in a gloating way that Britons will never be enslaved, when we were responsible for enslaving so many. We should have anthems which celebrate what is truly great about the UK, which we can all sing and this will help unite our country.

that is just wrong! The last night of proms has always been about joy, pomp and fun! To associate it with the holocaust is wrong on so many levels & sorry, you cannot justify that statement no matter how hard you try.

Its for joy for middle class and above (predominantly) white people, not so much so for the culture's the empire brutally subjugated for hundreds of years.

Debra, I could not believe her tweet. I feel sickened by it, and I've reported her tweet to twitter. I hope others do. Her comment was abhorrent, insensitive and cruel. I too will be watching the proms and singing extra loud. All the best to you & yours.
