Breakfast in Taiwan is unparalleled 1. Danbing with a view after a morning hike 2. Shaobing and savory soy milk 🍳 3. Milkfish soup in Kaohsiung 🍜 4. Best xlb I’ve ever had. A video of the soupiest of soup dumplings 🥟

🛫 Off to Taiwan! ☁️ Looking forward to nature, bikes, food, brushing up on my Chinese. First time in a looong time I haven’t gotten the Sunday scaries mentally prepping for work.
Jiufen, Taiwan. Colorful buildings sit on top of hilly mountains. Soft clouds drift over the mountains

13 years on the 🐦 app! I signed up for @Twitter in 2008. It was early days of social media & “Web 2.0” and my consulting boss had me create an account for work Back then, @aplusk + @SHAQ were the most notable people on Twitter and @BarackObama was still following everyone back

If you’re wondering why Twitter is still up & running with the majority of hardcore engineers gone, it’s because many exceptional engineers over the years gave it all they had to ensure the platform scaled under any conditions. Twitter was resilient 💙

I have never fought as hard as I have this week. My integrity is in tact and my conscience is clean. We went down swinging with everything we’ve got. 🫂💙🫡

Re-upping this Tweet from last week to amplify what others are saying - Birdwatch is a product that has been in development for a long time, and visible to US users for weeks now. 🧾

The past 6 months have pulled on every mental muscle I’ve developed in 48 years. You learn so much when times are challenging and unpredictable, when we are tired or feel our integrity questioned. Our team remained kind, respectful, and steadfast. They’re lifelong friends.

Really good advice not just for junior engineers, but any level. Also useful for experienced engineers stepping into a new team or domain. (cough reorgs)

There are plenty of ways to stand out as a junior engineer without taking a back seat. A few that worked for me: 1. When you’re faced with an unfamiliar problem, break it down into smaller problems. You might even recognize pieces that you already know how to solve.

Losing your sense of taste and smell is really freaky and depressing. Coffee tastes like water and berry flavored NyQuil tastes like dense salt water.

2.5 years into the pandemic anddd I finally got covid for the first time. I got the bivalent booster last month but still got a breakthrough infection. Feeling pretty awful right now

With some regularity people ask me whether they should switch from eng to EM. IMO if you’ve become a solid Senior eng, are great with people, can tolerate frustrating circumstances, and want to do a lot of those things, then sure, maybe. A non-exhaustive list of considerations…
