I finally posted my syllabi for week-long intro to DH classes. They're similar but different to account for the enrolled students, whether the class was graded, and how much time we had each day. Reuse and adapt whatever's helpful!

Nuancing the conception that the digital is necessarily ephemeral, reminds that some software has been around for decades and calls on us to recognize the patterns that lead to longevity: “no one should have used Flash to begin with”

Great talk by Francesca Samsel on using artists' palettes for affect and to direct attention in sci data visualizations. Would be interesting to see how the proposed palettes would stand up to UX testing paper: website:

My favorite thing about teaching the Unix shell is the reminder that Toy Story 2 didn't just teach us about friendship. It also taught us never to run rm -rf * from the root directory (unless we really mean it)

Appreciated the range in 's plenary, which moved from raw counts in Shakespeare to word embedding models trained on an early modern corpus to neural networks and translation. At each scale, Witmore stressed the role examples play in making results legible
