Side pandemic note: many
@SeattlePD officers are not wearing masks here. When asked by someone why not, 1 officer said they're outside and another said he has a medical condition.Show this thread -
For renters/ residents trying to get back in, some officers are asking for their IDs and others are not. 2 officers told me there is no clear directive on what to do and they're treating it case-by-case.

Something not seen in almost a month: protesters face off with a line of Seattle police. Pepper spray is out and at least 1 officer is carrying a gun that fires "non-lethal, foam rounds."

Seattle PD Assistant Chief Steve Hirjak says a Capitol Hill resident gave him flowers to give to Chief Carmen Best. Officers say a lot of food and coffee has been dropped off in thanks.

I'm asking
@SeattlePD police who are wearing masks what they think of officers without them. They say it's an individual choice and they're not aware of any order that they're supposed to have them.#coronavirus#seattleprotestShow this thread -
After what Seattle Police are calling a "misunderstanding" about press being here, we've now been allowed inside with police escort.

Following up on why so many police here are not wearing masks,
@SeattlePD Sergeant Lauren Truscott said they are aware of a directive to wear masks and some officers may have removed masks while changing out of gear. She's wearing one, btw. – at Seattle Police Department East PrecinctShow this thread -
The Black Lives Matter Street sign and fist have been removed from the power pole right outside the East Precinct.

Just got to walk through the area that was the
#CHOP. The only people inside are police and DOT crews. At most entrances a few officers stand alone. The only protesters here are at Broadway & Pine.#seattleprotestpic.twitter.com/S9yw8syzH6 – at Cal Anderson Park

Laika is a very good girl getting some rest right in the middle of dozens of protesters and police. She didn't want to be interviewed but let me scratch behind her ears.

Time for me to pack it in for now. A crowd is still facing police at Broadway & Pine. A couple of tense moments but peaceful. I'll leave you with a photo of a lone pink umbrella in the middle of an empty
#CHOP. (No, it's not *that* umbrella). Stay safe.pic.twitter.com/tPzSSNRBv6
