And we are not talking trivial numbers here : A standard range Semi currently requires 33,600 2170 cells A longe range Semi currently requires 50,400 2170 cells Compare that with 4,416 cells for a long range battery pack in a Model 3 or Model Y

So a long range Semi is equivalent to 11.4 long range Model 3s or Model Ys What are the reasons for this sudden affluence of battery cells out of GF1 ? Undoubtedly there will be more than a single factor involvedpic.twitter.com/KMwj29udJL

For example : 1. As of 2020 Q1 Panasonic had still not hit their nominal 35 GWh target run rate at GF1 - improving run rates for Panasonic may be increasing GF1 cell supply

      2. And even when they achieve that “nominal” rate, there is still plenty of upside from reducing the massive Yield Loss from production - improving Yield rates for Panasonic may be increasing GF1 cell supplypic.twitter.com/6SI2niL0CD

      3. GF1 Nevada was supporting GF3 Shanghai with battery cells and packs late last year and early this year - that support has now ended with the switch to LG Chem and upcoming GF3 supply from CATL, freeing up GF1 supply for U.S. purposes

      4. There is speculation that Tesla may soon be able to use its own new battery cells and new packs from Project Roadrunner in the Model Y, and that cell production is believed to be at a separate facility in or around Fremont - this will free up further 2170 cell supply from GF1

Why would they not put the cell lines in Nevada? The difficulty of getting employees is the only reason I can see.

"The difficulty of getting employees is the only reason I can see." That's like saying, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?" The northern Nevada labor shortage is crippling and has been a major impediment for Tesla/Panasonic at GF1. I live here, I know.

Point taken 🤣. Why can't they get more people to move there?

Lincoln freed the slaves. We have jobs going begging here, and Panasonic has been recruiting everywhere west of the Rockies. GF1 offers top pay and benefits as well.

I know a young man who works at Panasonic and he's ready to quit. He is sick and tired of being sick and tired, of being one of 3 or 3 on a line where there should be 7. He tells of 75 being hired and only 40 bother to show up on the first day of work, of people quitting on a...
