Gender reveal parties aren't some ancient tradition. They're a few years old. They're part of the conservative backlash against the increased visibility and tolerance of trans people. They're not "just an excuse for more gifts". They're inherently oppressive and violent.

Gender reveal parties are stupid but saying they’re “oppressive and violent” seems hyperbolic. And it is not going to help convince “regular people” that don’t feel strongly about validating trans people that they need to rethink their opinions.

Causing fires that destroy entire towns and leave folks homeless seems violent and oppressive to me.

And, oppressive to trans people because their privacy was invaded without their consent.

Which bit of setting off pyrotechnics isn't violent? Which bit about enforcing the cisnormative belief that genitals equates to gender isn't oppressive?

“Which bit about enforcing the cisnormative belief that genitals equates to gender isn't oppressive?” That bit is both oppressive and violent. Emotional/psychological violence is real.

Four children died from lawn darts and now lawn darts are illegal. Kinder Eggs, one of the most popular chocolates in the UK, are banned because a child might bite down and somehow swallow a tiny piece of plastic. So when I say that this shouldn't be a thing...understand why.

Just gonna say but that person wasn’t saying they aren’t bad, they just said the use of extreme language is incredibly off putting to anyone who doesn’t agree with you already...

          1) yes, an ostentatious display to announce the gender of a child before they even enter the world is an oppressive reinforcement of the gender binary 2) you look like Dennis Praeger if he was in a Mighty Mighty Bosstones tribute band
