Men are seen as everything! Heroes, villains, geniuses, fools, violent, kind, serious, silly, warm, cold...men get to occupy the full spectrum of human identity and personality. In other words, MEN ARE SEEN AS FULL-FLEDGED PEOPLE.

Oh my god dude. Women are almost always defined in media in relation to men. They are typically wives, daughters, mothers, girlfriends, but rarely the focus of the story, rarely the ones whose humanity is being explored and validated.

Portraying women typically as "virtuous" or good, rather than allowing them the full spectrum of humanity in media that men occupy, is itself oppressive and limiting, and reasserts the position of male as dominant and default, and female as other. This is not complicated.

Men aren't "treated poorly." Men are treated very well, as full human beings who get to be anything & everything, & therefore no one portrayal reinforces any oppressive stereotype against men. (Also men are the dominant gender in our culture, they are not oppressed to begin with)

Women are oppressed in our culture, and the often narrow patterns which women occupy in media contribute to that, to patriarchy and to men's cultural dominance over women.

You're not getting it. If women were centered as much as men & were presented as heroes & villains & geniuses & fools & kind & cruel & were depicted as fully human and occupying the entirety of the human spectrum and weren't defined in relation to men, there wouldn't be an issue.

Hahaha, I don’t hate individuality! But I’m a socialist. We live in an interconnected web. Like it or not, we affect each other. Millionaires and billionaires don’t make their fortunes alone. They rely on the labor of dozens or hundreds or thousands.
