Women are oppressed in our culture, and the often narrow patterns which women occupy in media contribute to that, to patriarchy and to men's cultural dominance over women.

You're not getting it. If women were centered as much as men & were presented as heroes & villains & geniuses & fools & kind & cruel & were depicted as fully human and occupying the entirety of the human spectrum and weren't defined in relation to men, there wouldn't be an issue.
