You're making assumptions about me in the same tweet that you say you're not making assumptions about me. Let me ask you this very simple question; Do you believe that violence in video games reinforces violence outside of video games?

Of course, it reinforces the fact that domination through violence is accepted and even admired as an interpersonal and international value. It's well-documented that media influences our cultural values, our understanding of gender, our fears, our sense of beauty, and so on.

even though there has been study after study by various organisations and universities to prove that it doesn't.

Really?! People didn't start avoiding the beach in droves after the release of Jaws? Kids of Indian and South Asian descent didn't have widespread experiences of being mocked as "Apu" and "Jafar" in the 90s?

The presence of humanized trans characters in stuff like Transparent and Orange Is the New Black isn't helping contribute to a marginally less transphobic culture? Advertising hasn't made cigarette smoking seem "cool" to young people?

Millions of people don't have their perceptions of what sex and romance are supposed to look like influenced by depictions of these things in movies and on TV? No young man ever sees a tough male hero in a movie or video game and wants to be like them?

Media has a tremendous impact on our cultural values. To suggest otherwise is sheer folly.

I actually agree with you there somewhat. However, understand that media is usually making a commentary on what is actually happening in the world. Pick any south park episode, Rick & morty, Family guy, American dad. Not a single one of those makes impact on cultural values

It...it doesn't?! South Park has had a TREMENDOUS cultural impact. The show celebrates a lack of empathy. It says that actually caring about anything or taking anything seriously makes you a loser, and people have listened. https://tv.avclub.com/south-park-raised-a-generation-of-trolls-1798264498 …

If what you said there was correct and applicable to anyone other than those who shouldn't own a TV, everyone who I grew up with would be an uncaring dickhead who kicks gingers. South park, need I remind you, has 4 main characters with differing opinions, views and messages

The show itself has a very clear viewpoint. Also, that's not how it works. I'm not saying South Park makes everyone who watches it an asshole, or violent games make players violent. I'm talking about the impact of media on larger cultural values.
