Most games have been designed with presumed straight male players in mind. The physicality of male heroes is therefore usually designed to be something that the player wants to have/possess/emulate, not something they desire sexually.

A claim that you have solid, independent, verifiable evidence for, I presume?

If you watch the Tropes vs. Women in Video Games series with an open mind you'll see that the sheer volume of evidence makes it all pretty clear.

I have watched that "series", if we are going to call it that (and calling it a series is nails on a chalkboard to me but that is purely a personal opinion) and it is all 1 person's taking one little perceived slight, then blowing it out of all proportion.

lol. k. how convenient that you get to feel that way, never having experienced firsthand just how incredibly misogynistic games culture can be, and how those attitudes are so fueled and reinforced by the content of so many games. enjoy your privilege.

Oh PLEASE keep playing that particular card. I LOVE it when people someone who they don't know what they have and haven't experienced. It gives me a good chuckle

It's just a fact. You couldn't go through what I've gone through and have the slightest shred of doubt about the widespread sexism of games and the role games themselves have historically played in reinforcing that highly misogynistic culture around games.

You actually have the gall to say that after assuming my life experience? You are fucking hilarious, I hope you realise that. Although I should point out that I’m more over laughing AT you, rather than with you.

I'm not assuming anything about your life experience other than that it isn't mine and that clearly it has not illuminated for you how the widespread misogyny IN games has reinforced the culture of misogyny AROUND games.

You're making assumptions about me in the same tweet that you say you're not making assumptions about me. Let me ask you this very simple question; Do you believe that violence in video games reinforces violence outside of video games?

Of course, it reinforces the fact that domination through violence is accepted and even admired as an interpersonal and international value. It's well-documented that media influences our cultural values, our understanding of gender, our fears, our sense of beauty, and so on.

Also, I'm not making assumptions about you. Your statements make it very clear that you don't believe misogyny in games is an issue worthy of much concern, or something that has much cultural power or impact.

even though there has been study after study by various organisations and universities to prove that it doesn't.

Really?! People didn't start avoiding the beach in droves after the release of Jaws? Kids of Indian and South Asian descent didn't have widespread experiences of being mocked as "Apu" and "Jafar" in the 90s?
